Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the double mediating effect of adult attachment insecurity and emotional dysregulation between childhood attachment trauma and adult dissociation. Data were collected online from 436 adult men and women using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), the Experience in Close Relationship Scale-Revised (ECR-R), the Difficulties Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), and the Dissociative Experience Scale (DES). The results were as follows. First, the correlation analysis between major variables showed that the relationship between childhood attachment trauma and attachment avoidance, and between attachment avoidance and adult dissociation were not significant. Additionally, the relationship between other variables were significant. Second, attachment anxiety and emotional dysregulation had a double mediating effect on the relationship between childhood attachment trauma and adult dissociation. However, attachment avoidance and emotional dysregulation had no significant mediating effects. This result confirms that the effects of childhood attachment trauma on emotional dysregulation and adult dissociation differ according to adult attachment insecurity dimensions, showing that differentiated intervention strategies according to adult attachment insecurity dimensions are needed. The implications and limitations of these results are discussed.
